Ralph Adolphs' laboratory at Caltech investigates the neural underpinnings of human social behavior, addressing such questions as: How do we recognize emotion from facial expressions? How do we make social judgments about other people? How do we look at people’s faces and how do we move our eyes when looking at them? How do we make decisions that are influenced by emotion? How do we remember emotional events in our lives?
The lab is studying the aftermath of specific brain damage and trying to answer these questions using a variety of techniques, including recording electrical activity in the brain and probing the behavior of people with autism and Williams’ syndrome. Dr. Adlophs' grant from the foundation is for a project testing neurological models of autism.
