Opportunity

The Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain (SCGB) is accepting applications for funding of courses, conferences, and workshops relevant to the SCGB mission. Of particular interest are courses that focus on training in computational and theoretical neuroscience. Conferences that focus on the fields of systems and computational neuroscience are also encouraged to apply. For more information on the SCGB program, please visit
https://www.simonsfoundation.org/life-sciences/simons-collaboration-global-brain/.

Eligibility

Applications may be submitted by course and conference organizers at domestic and foreign nonprofit organizations; public and private institutions, such as colleges, universities, hospitals, laboratories, and units of state and local government; and eligible agencies of the federal government. There are no citizenship or country requirements.

Timeline and Funding

Awards will be for two years contingent on satisfactory performance, which will be evaluated yearly by the SCGB executive. Funding levels will be determined by budget request and justification.

Instructions for Submission

An email inquiry must be made to globalbrain@simonsfoundation.org before an application will be opened. Please write “SCGB Course/Conference Grants Inquiry” in your subject line. In the body of your email, please provide a paragraph of information on the course or conference, along with any relevant links, and state your overall anticipated budget, the amount you wish to request, and the individual designated as the ‘contact PI.’

The deadline for email inquiries is February 15, 2019, 11:59 pm EST. If you are invited to complete a full application, the deadline for submission is February 28, 2019, 11:59 pm EST. Full applications will include a proposal narrative of 1-2 pages, attached as a PDF, outlining the objective and structure of the course, conference, or workshop. The narrative should include (but is not limited to) the following: course/conference sponsor, course/conference title, start/end dates, location, website, and any available attendee demographics (i.e., countries of origin, educational background, race, etc.).

  1. Title Page: Please state the course, conference or workshop title and the dates of the event.
  2. Download Templates & Instructions: All templates necessary to complete your application are available for download in this module (or the Proposal Attachments module, where attachments are submitted as PDF-only files; see the Proposal Attachments section below for more details).
  3. Enable Other Users to Access this Proposal: This module allows you to give other users access to your grant application. You can give them one of three levels of access: View, Edit or Administrator.

    1. In this module, the contact information for the signing official and the financial officer from your institution is required. Please select the correct person(s) or enter new names in this section.
    2. This information is preloaded from the institutional profile. For both pre- and post-award management, select the appropriate signing officials and financial officers from the drop-down list or enter the email address of a new official and click “Add.” Click on the “Save” or “Close window” link — the official will now be listed as the assigned signing official or financial officer.
