  • PhD and Postdoc Positions at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland)

The computational physics group of Philipp Werner at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) has several openings for PhD and Postdoc positions. The prospective candidates should have a strong background in theoretical condensed matter physics, as well as decent programming skills.

The research activities in the group cover a broad range of topics in the field of computational condensed matter physics, with a focus on nonequilibrium phenomena, dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) based approaches to correlated lattice systems, and beyond-DMFT schemes for the ab-initio simulation of strongly correlated materials (a brief overview can be found here: http://physics.unifr.ch/en/page/533). In the future, we will try to merge the nonequilibrium techniques and ab-initio methods to enable material-specific predictions of nonequilibrium phenomena in solids.

Interested candidates should send a brief research statement, as well as their CV and publication list (postdoc candiates), or CV and detailed list of grades (PhD candidates) to philipp.werner(replace this with the @ sign)unifr.ch. The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate in Theoretical Condensed Matter at UCL [Ref. 1621377]

The London Centre for Nanotechnology and University College London are pleased to offer a post-doctoral research position in theoretical condensed matter. The postdoc will pursue theoretical research into strongly correlated quantum systems, investigating the formation of new phases due to quantum fluctuations. He/she will extend the quantum order by disorder approach to understanding these effects, expanding its scope to accommodate new types of order and developing analytical and numerical tools to implement it more accurately. The work will be carried out in the group of Prof A. G. Green and Dr F. Kruger and in close collaboration with the experimental groups of Prof Andrew Huxley in Edinburgh and Prof Des McMorrow in UCL who are also funded from this grant.

The position, which is funded by the EPSRC, is initially for two years with potential to extend.
UCL Grade 7 Salary Range: £34,056 -£41,163 (including London allowance)
Start Date: 31st march 2017 or as soon thereafter as possible
