Campus Inauguration Event: Science at ICTS

International Centre for Theoretical Sciences

Distinguished scientists from around the world gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the new campus of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) in Bengaluru (Bangalore), India, on June 20, 2015. The program included sessions for both academic and general audiences, featuring some of the most outstanding scientists of our time, as well as a public lecture by the number theorist Manjul Bhargava titled “Poetry, Drumming and Mathematics.”

ICTS is a multi- and interdisciplinary institute that promotes collaboration in research within India and beyond. Faculty research areas include statistical physics, complex systems, cross-disciplinary biology, gravitational waves and numerical relativity, as well as string theory, particle physics and cosmology. ICTS hosts programs and conferences that bring together outstanding scientists to work on the most important current topics in science. It also conducts outreach to the general public in order to increase engagement in science. The new campus provides a gracious permanent home and modern facilities for ICTS activities.

An award from the Simons Foundation Targeted Grants to Institutes program will enable ICTS to establish postdoctoral fellowships, a visiting scholars program and a distinguished chair of theoretical science.
