Models and Phenomenology of Quantum Matter

Spectral function (density of states) in plane of momentum and energy for a fermonic quantum gas at several interaction strengths near the crossover from Bose-Einstein condensation to conventional superconductivity. From Hao Shi (CCQ) and Shiwei Zhang (William and Mary).

Quantum systems with a large number of interacting particles – such as materials with strong electronic correlations or ultra-cold atomic gases – are host to a wealth of collective behaviors, ranging from metal-insulator transitions to high-temperature superconductivity. We are developing models, theories and computational methods to understand and predict the behavior of these systems.
