Alex Rautu, Ph.D.

Flatiron Research Fellow, Biophysical Modeling, CCB, Flatiron Institute

Alex Rautu joined the foundation in 2020 as a member of the Biophysical Modeling group. His research focuses on theoretical problems in soft matter and biology, and particularly on the biophysics of cellular processes. At the foundation, he works to develop quantitative theories to describe the active dynamics within the cell nucleus. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral researcher at National Centre for Biological Sciences in Bangalore, India, studying the role of active trafficking dynamics on the shape and morphogenesis of subcellular compartments. Alex completed a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Warwick in the UK, which involved a study of the biophysics of membranes in and out of equilibrium.
