Peter Brown, Ph.D.

After completing a B.A. in mathematics from Harvard and a Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon, Peter Brown spent nine years with IBM Research, applying machine learning techniques to automatic speech recognition and natural language translation. Brown joined Renaissance Technologies in 1993. In 2003, he was promoted to executive vice president, a position from which he co-managed all trading, research, and technical activities. In 2010, Brown became the firm’s co-CEO, and today he serves as the firm’s sole CEO. When not in Renaissance’s Long Island office, Brown lives with his wife, Margaret Hamburg, in Washington, D.C.
