Saurabh W. Jha is on sabbatical from Rutgers University as a visiting scholar at the CCA in 2019. His main research focus is the observational study of white dwarf supernovae. He is interested in the astrophysics of these exploding stars: their progenitor systems and how they explode, and also in using them as cosmological tools. Type Ia supernovae, in particular, can provide precise extragalactic distances to measure the accelerating expansion of the Universe, driven by dark energy.
