Science in Community

We enable science engagement opportunities at the community level by supporting trusted local leaders to build connections between science and everyday life.

Four students, three wearing masks, work together in a lab. One uses a microscope as another adjusts equipment. An instructor in a BioBus Scientist shirt assists, while another student watches.

How does science show up in our day-to-day lives? For many of us, science is not always top of mind. But science can be a tool to affect the things and people we care about. Our work is to enable science engagement at the community level – we fund people who, while maybe not scientists themselves, have deep connections to the place they call home. They’ve built a network of collaborators – from fellow community leaders, parents and caregivers, educators and more. They lead the work to make connections between science and their immediate environments.
