Bhargav Bhatt, a mathematician at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University and the University of Michigan, discusses his work in algebraic geometry, commutative algebra and cohomology.
University of Michigan
Bhargav Bhatt is the Fernholz Joint Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study and Princeton University, and the Frederick W and Lois B Genrig Professor of Mathematics at the University of Michigan. He is a 2020 Simons Investigator in Mathematics.
Bhatt’s research focuses on commutative algebra and arithmetic geometry, especially on p-adic cohomology. His research, which often draws on ideas from derived algebraic geometry, has also contributed to the solution of long-standing problems in commutative algebra and algebraic topology.
Bhatt completed both his master’s degree and doctorate in mathematics at Princeton University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Columbia University.
