Other Internships

Why intern here?

1.

Work on Exciting Projects
You’ll collaborate with your mentor on a project that aligns with your field of study and builds your portfolio.

2.

Team Up With a Mentor
You’ll be paired with an experienced scientist or supervisor who will guide your research or projects and help you to navigate the field.

3.

Collaborate With Top Scientists
Interns working on research projects will work with and learn from interdisciplinary scientists in a collaborative environment. Some research may lead to lasting collaborations.

4.

Attend Social Events
In addition to building your research and professional skills, you’ll have multiple opportunities to network with staff and peer interns through social events woven throughout your internship experience. Potential events include field trips to New York City museums, rooftop receptions, and staff outings.

5.

Live and Work in New York City
All internships will be in person at our Manhattan offices. Interns may be provided with housing support near the Simons Foundation offices.

6.

Join a Vibrant Scientific Community
The Simons Foundation offers a wide variety of participatory events including lectures, coding workshops, scientific seminars, and poster session workshops. Led by subject matter experts from around the world, these events will immerse you in the latest developments in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Research Internships

Work on computational research alongside leading scientists and develop computational tools that support real scientific discovery.

Join a research group in biology, neuroscience, physics, mathematics, or AI and contribute to a mentored summer research project at the Flatiron Institute. Interns gain hands-on experience in computational science while building skills for graduate study and research careers.

Partner Programs

Conduct summer astrophysics research through a partnership program for CUNY students.

Join a year-round scholars program that places CUNY undergraduates with summer research projects at the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Astrophysics. Receive mentoring, training, and exposure to professional research environments.

Working Here

Flatiron Centers

The Flatiron Institute is the Simons Foundation’s internal center for computational science research.

People sit at yellow tables on a sunny rooftop patio, working on laptops or talking. Trees provide shade, and city buildings with domes and balconies are visible in the background.

Beyond Research

Discover ways to engage with science through writing, education, and public programs.
