Ashley Chui is a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Michele Pagano at the New York University School of Medicine. She received her B.S. in biochemistry from California State University, Fullerton and her Ph.D. from the Tri-Institutional Ph.D. program in chemical biology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. During her doctoral studies in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Bachovchin, Chui studied the molecular mechanisms of an inflammasome and discovered a novel pathway that requires the proteasomal degradation via the N-end rule for its activation. For this work, she was a recipient of the 2019 Julian R. Rachele Award in recognition of Weill Cornell Medicine’s outstanding graduate student research paper of 2018–19. Chui’s current postdoctoral research focuses on a family of ubiquitin ligases, the cullin-RING ligases and how these ligases and, importantly, its substrates regulate cellular functions such as the cell cycle through timed proteasomal degradation.
