Four students sit at desks in a classroom, writing on paper. Yellow spiral patterns and red text overlays highlight different areas of the scene. Bookshelves, posters, and cabinets are visible in the background.

Overview

Children with autism often have behaviors that suggest problems with attention. It is unclear whether this attention deficit causes the other symptoms of autism or is a consequence of the disorder. On February 4, 2011, the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) hosted a workshop to discuss the nature of differences in attention in people with autism.
