Maria Okounkova, Ph.D.

Flatiron Research Fellow, Gravitational Wave Astronomy, CCA, Flatiron Institute

Masha joined the foundation in 2019 as a member of the Center for Computational Astrophysics. Prior to joining the Flatiron Institute, Masha received her PhD in physics at Caltech, working with Saul Teukolsky and the SXS collaboration. She is a numerical relativist (solving the equations governing spacetime on supercomputers) by training, and is interested in testing general relativity with gravitational wave observations, as well as applying her numerical relativity skills to other strong-field gravity projects. Masha has a B.A. in physics from Princeton University, with a certificate (minor) in applications of computing.
