Computational Biology: CCBx

A network of cutting-edge experimental labs uniting theorists and experimentalists to develop and test theories of biological systems.

About

The Center for Computational Biologyx (CCBx) supports interdisciplinary experimentation by providing the hard data to test specific quantitative theories and the exploratory investigations needed to suggest the right theoretical approaches.

As a physically delocalized sister center to the Center for Computational Biology (CCB), CCBx supports collaborative work at eight institutions across the country. All projects are tightly integrated with research efforts at CCB.

Current projects include work on fluid flows and oogenesis; spindles and cell division; the quantitative characterization of probability distributions from cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography; the genetics and biophysics of neuronal morphology and internal organization; and chromatin organization, dynamics and mechanics.

CCBScope Observatory

Three panels show microscopic images of fluorescent green squiggly lines on black backgrounds: a single spiral (a), a loose spiral (b), and a dense tangle of multi-colored lines with a color scale bar (c).
Exclusive to the Flatiron Institute, the CCBScope Observatory is the in-house experimental arm of CCBx. The above images are projections of three-dimensional images acquired on the CCBScope Observatory’s confocal microscope. Credit: Jasmin Imran Alsous Credit: Jasmin Imran Alsous

CCBx Meeting Series

To facilitate joint planning and interpretation of results, CCBx teams meet online regularly, and an annual in-person reporting and planning meeting is held at the Flatiron Institute each summer.
