David Lewis is a Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the chair of the Department of Psychiatry, and director of the Translational Neuroscience Program within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as the medical director and director of research for the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and director of the National Institute of Mental Health’s Conte Center for Translational Mental Health Research.

Lewis focuses on research and training activities relevant to both basic and clinical neuroscience, with a particular interest in schizophrenia and mood disorders. Lewis’ laboratory works toward developing a better understanding of the organization and the functional properties of the neural circuitry of the prefrontal cortex and interconnected brain regions, and alterations to this circuitry that occur in schizophrenia. In collaboration with industry partners, Lewis’ laboratory is also pursuing several approaches to identify and validate novel drug targets for the treatment of schizophrenia. His work has resulted in the publication of hundreds of research articles and has been presented at numerous scientific and medical conferences.
