Laura Colgin is an assistant professor of neuroscience at the University of Texas at Austin. Colgin’s work aims to uncover the mechanisms and neural circuits controlling different types of synchronized rhythms within the brain and to understand the functional significance of these rhythms for behavior. Elucidating links between rhythmic activity and cognitive function also provides potential insights into brain disorders, such as autism, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease, which are associated with aberrant rhythms.
