Brian Metzger, Ph.D.

Brian Metzger received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009. He was a NASA Einstein Fellow at Princeton University from 2009 to 2012 before joining Columbia University’s Department of Physics in 2013. Metzger’s research is in theoretical high energy astrophysics, on topics including gamma-ray bursts; supernovae; fast radio bursts; accretion processes; compact objects; nucleosynthesis (astrophysical origin of the elements); and the electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources. His awards include the New Horizons Breakthrough Prize in Physics and the Bruno Rossi Prize of the American Astronomical Society.
