Opportunity
The Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain (SCGB) is accepting applications for funding of courses or conferences relevant to the SCGB mission. Courses and conferences that focus on the fields of systems and computational neuroscience are encouraged to apply. You can find more information on the SCGB program here.
Eligibility
Applications may be submitted by course or conference organizers at domestic and foreign nonprofit organizations; public and private institutions, such as colleges, universities, hospitals, laboratories and units of state and local government; and eligible agencies of the federal government. There are no citizenship or country requirements.
Timeline and Funding
Funding will be provided in the form of a gift for two years. Funding levels will be determined by budget request and justification. Your institution will be contacted by the Simons Foundation for a summary of the events.
Instructions for Submission
A presubmission inquiry must be made using this form before an application will be opened. Please note that the “Apply Now” button on this page will direct you to the full application, not the presubmission inquiry. A presubmission inquiry must be completed and approved in order to gain access to the full application. This inquiry will require a paragraph of information on the course or conference, along with any relevant links, your overall anticipated budget, the amount you wish to request from the Simons Foundation, and the conference or course director to be designated as the applicant. The deadline for inquiries is January 19, 2023, 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).
For those invited to complete a full application, all applications must be submitted via the Simons Award Manager (SAM). The deadline for full application submission is February 2, 2023, 12:00 p.m. EST. Full applications will include:
- Proposal Narrative (1-2 pages). Please upload a PDF outlining the objective and structure of the course, conference or workshop. The narrative should include (but is not limited to) the following: the objective and structure of the course or conference, description of how the course or conference aligns with the SCGB’s scientific mission, course/conference sponsor(s), course/conference title, start and end dates, location, website and any available attendee demographics (i.e., countries of origin, educational background, race, gender, etc.).
- Budget. Applicants will be asked to provide 1) an overall budget for the course, including other sources of funding; and 2) a specific budget for the funds requested from the SCGB.
- Code of Conduct. Applicants will be asked to confirm that the course or conference has a code of conduct that will provide an environment for the exchange of scientific ideas and knowledge that conforms to the highest ethical, professional and legal standards.
- Description. Applicants will be asked to provide a description/abstract of the course or conference for the Simons Foundation website.
Please refer to the How to Apply tab for instructions.
