Abstract

I will discuss the problem of the fate of a mobile fluid of anyons obtained by doping fractional quantum anomalous Hall states. Building on old ideas on “anyon superconductivity”, I will describe some possible ground states proximate to the prominent 2/3 fractional quantum anomalous Hall state in a Chern band. I will show that, depending on microscopicdetails, both superconducting ground states as well as a charge order Fermi liquid metal can emerge naturally. I will describe the surprising effects of disorder on such a superconductor: at low doping, an “Anamalous Vortex Glass” superconductor results with characteristics distinguishable from an ordinary superconductor.

Senthil Todadri is currently the William and Emma Rogers Professor of Physics at MIT. He received his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1992, and his PhD from Yale University in 1997. He then moved to a postdoctoral position at the Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics in UC Santa Barbara before joining the physics faculty at MIT in 2001. His interests span a wide range of theoretical quantum condensed matter physics.

Event Series

Quantum Café

A bi-weekly seminar series for the quantum physics community.

Open to members of the greater NYC scientific community and held every second week, Quantum Café presents a series of informal, highly interactive talks, typically by external speakers, which present the most interesting recent developments and open questions in computational quantum mechanics.
