Michael McCabe, Ph.D.

Research Analyst, Foundation Models for Science, CCA, Flatiron Institute

Michael McCabe joined the Flatiron Institute as a research analyst in 2023. He is a final year Computer Science PhD Student at the University of Colorado, Boulder advised by Prof. Jed Brown and has research interests in machine learning and optimization, especially for physical systems. Michael’s current research goals are integrating ideas from numerical methods into large-scale deep learning architectures to build tools that are better suited to learning physical dynamics more reliably or efficiently. Throughout his PhD, he has spent time at Lawrence Berkeley and Argonne National Laboratories. Michael earned a M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado and B.A. in Economics and International Studies from Northwestern University.
