Ettore Vitali, Ph.D.

Ettore Vitali is an Assistant Professor of Physics at California State University, Fresno. Until July 2018, he was a member of the Monte Carlo Group, working with Shiwei Zhang as a postdoctoral research associate at the College of William & Mary. He received his Ph.D. at the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, in 2008, under the supervision of Luciano Reatto. After his Ph.D., he worked as a postdoc fellow at CNR-IOM DEMOCRITOS, Trieste, Italy, under the supervision of Saverio Moroni and at the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, under the supervision of Davide Galli.

His research is focused on quantum Monte Carlo methods and their generalizations to compute ab initio dynamical response functions of strongly correlated many-body systems. In particular, his current interest is applying auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo simulations to compute ab initio ground-state and excited-state properties of the single and multiband Hubbard model, in connection with high-temperature superconductivity and with the physics of ultracold fermionic gases.
