Laura Sommovigo, Ph.D.

Flatiron Research Fellow, Galaxy Formation, CCA, Flatiron Institute

Laura Sommovigo joined the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) as a Flatiron Research Fellow in October 2023. She earned her Ph.D. in astrophysics from Scuola Normale Superiore in 2023. Her research focuses on modeling the impact of dust and ISM properties on the emission spectra of galaxies in the early Universe. She frequently collaborates with observational astronomers and is part of three large collaborations, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) large programs Reionization Era Bright Emission Line Survey (REBELS) and COSMOS High-z ALMA-MIRI Population Survey (CHAMPS), and the Atacama Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (AtLAST) team. Sommovigo is committed to improving diversity in STEM and is the designer of the outreach project “ISPIRA” aimed at encouraging young girls to consider a career in science.
