Lawrence Saul joined the Center for Computational Mathematics as a Senior Research Scientist in July 2022.

His main research contributions are in the areas of machine learning, high dimensional data analysis, latent variable modeling, and voice and audio processing.

Prior to joining Flatiron Institute, Lawrence served as Professor and Vice-Chair in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego; he joined their faculty in July 2006. He also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Machine Learning Research from 2008 through 2013. Saul earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Harvard University and a doctorate in Physics from M.I.T.
