Lionel Garcia, Ph.D.

Flatiron Research Fellow, Astrophysical Data and Surveys, CCA, Flatiron Institute

Lionel Garcia joined the Center for Computational Astrophysics as a Flatiron Research Fellow in September 2023. With undergraduate degrees in optical engineering and computer science, he then earned his Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Liège in Belgium, where he focused on the detection and characterization of small terrestrial exoplanets. In the Astronomical Data Group, he is developing observational techniques to better understand small and cool stars, working towards the detection of life on the rocky exoplanets they host. Garcia is a member of the SPECULOOS consortium and an active open-source software developer.
