Sachin Ranade, Ph.D.

Scientist, Neuroscience collaborations

Sachin Ranade is a scientist on the Neuroscience Collaborations team and the scientific lead for the Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain (SCGB). Ranade obtained his Ph.D. in neuroscience from Stony Brook University. For his doctoral research with Zachary Mainen at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), he studied the behavioral correlates of neurons in the serotonergic dorsal raphe nucleus of rats during a perceptual decision-making task. As a postdoc with Adam Kepecs at CSHL, he collaborated to develop and apply the technique of optogenetic tagging for tetrode recordings in freely behaving mice to study activity profiles of specific interneuron cell types and cholinergic neurons in the basal forebrain. Before joining the Simons Foundation in March 2023, Sachin worked on the editorial teams of Nature Communications and Nature Neuroscience.
