Sachin Ranade, Ph.D.

Sachin Ranade is senior scientific officer on the Neuroscience Collaborations team in the Autism & Neuroscience division at the Simons Foundation. He is part of the team that identifies new areas for funding and facilitating research through grantmaking, convenings and building community. Ranade is the scientific lead for the following collaborative grants – the Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain (SCGB), Simons Collaboration on Ecological Neuroscience (SCENE) and International Brain Laboratory (IBL).

Before joining the Simons Foundation, Ranade worked on the editorial teams at Nature Communications and Nature Neuroscience. Ranade has doctoral and postdoctoral research experience in rodent systems neuroscience at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and obtained his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University. His doctoral work was on behavioral correlates of neurons in the serotonergic dorsal raphe nucleus during an olfactory decision task. During his postdoctoral research he was involved in developing optogenetic tagging technique in freely moving mice and applying it to investigate response profiles of specific interneuron subtypes and cholinergic neurons during psychometric tasks.
