Simone Tilmes, Ph.D.

Project Scientist III, NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research

Simone Tilmes is a Project Scientist III at the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research and the co-chair of the CESM chemistry-climate working group. Her scientific interests include working on chemical, aerosol and dynamic processes in chemistry-climate models. Her research specializes in the effects of climate intervention strategies on the Earth system, particularly the stratospheric aerosol and ozone, the effects on climate, and impacts. Tilmes has been updating a recent CESM version with a sophisticated aerosol model and will work with a team to integrate new solid materials into the model and assess their effects. She is also an advisor to the DEGREES modeling fund research teams, an effort to increase capacity building on climate intervention strategies for the Global South.
