Anders Fjell is a professor of cognitive psychology at the University of Oslo, Norway, and co-leader of Center for Lifespan Changes in Brain and Cognition (LCBC). He and his collaborators’ research at LCBC focuses on identifying factors that affect brain and cognitive development and aging, and whether they have the potential to affect the lifespan trajectories. The ultimate aim is to contribute to the improvement of cognitive function and brain health in aging. At the core of this research is longitudinal examinations, in which the researchers follow large cohorts of healthy participants over time with neuropsychological and cognitive testing and brain MRI. In addition, they perform somatic examinations and blood tests and map lifestyle factors and genetics. LCBC is also involved in and coordinates multi-center collaborative studies, both nationally as well as internationally. This includes consortium studies, where they aim to characterize healthy brain aging and find factors associated with good cognitive function and brain health. They have also contributed to methods development within statistics and neuroimaging, which are freely shared, following principles of open science.
