Mariana Cardoso, Ph.D.

New York University

Mariana Cardoso is a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Lynne Kiorpes at the Center for Neural Science at New York University. She received her master’s in physics engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, and her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Universidade Nova de Lisboa in context of the Champalimaud Neuroscience Programme. She conducted her doctoral research in Dr. Aniruddha Das’s laboratory at Columbia University, where she focused on the relationship between neural circuit function and neuroimaging signals. After, she worked in Dr. Philip Sabes’s laboratory at University of California, San Francisco, on a brain-machine-interface project. Cardoso is interested in identifying behaviorally relevant changes in neural activity that are not solely sensory in essence, such as attention or arousal. Her current research is focused on the visual system and in particular on a visual disorder related to abnormal visual experience early in life. She aims to identify neural circuit signatures that might account for the behavioral deficits observed in amblyopia.
