Stylianos Varchanis, Ph.D.

Flatiron Research Fellow, Biophysical Modeling, CCB, Flatiron Institute

Stylianos Varchanis joined the Flatiron Institute in 2023 as a Research Fellow at the Center for Computational Biology in the Biophysical Modeling Group. His work focuses on the modeling and simulation of interactions between non-Newtonian fluids and gases, other fluids or solids arising in physics and biology. Before joining the Flatiron Institute, he was a postdoctoral fellow in computational rheology at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan. He holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Patras in Greece. Varchanis received the Walters Prize from Elsevier and the Kakenhi early-career scientist grant from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. While at Patras, he was awarded the Greek State Doctoral Scholarship (IKY).
