Watch: Who Cares About Gravitational Waves?, a Short Film Making the Case for Why We Should
Did you know that right now, gravitational waves are moving through all of us? In Who Cares About Gravitational Waves?, documentary filmmaker and creative director Kyle Finnegan and Flatiron Institute Research Fellow Lieke van Son take you on a hilarious journey through the streets of Manhattan to explore how these invisible waves ripple all around us and why they matter. The film is an irreverent reflection on gravitational wave research, which has already revealed many new insights about the universe. A satiric look at life in the city, Who Cares About Gravitational Waves? explores the unseen waves that play a role throughout the universe and our daily lives.
The film, which you can stream now, was made as part of Symbiosis, a two-week program that pairs six scientists with six filmmakers. Each pair is tasked with creating short, boundary-pushing films. This year’s Symbiosis program is a component of the Simons Foundation’s Researcher Engagement program, an initiative of the foundation’s Science, Society & Culture division.
