Illustris, IllustrisTNG and beyond: the era of large-scale cosmological simulations
In my talk I will describe recent efforts to model the large-scale distribution
of galaxies with cosmological hydrodynamics simulations. I will mainly focus on
the Illustris simulation, and our new simulation campaign, the IllustrisTNG
project. I will discuss successes of these projects and talk
about directions for further improvements. In the second part of my talk I
will focus on physical processes that have so far been neglected in large-scale
galaxy formation models despite their importance and relevance in shaping
the galaxy population.
