Title: Understanding white matter: computational models and informatics

Abstract:  The white matter takes up 50% of the brain volume. Yet, we understand very little about its role in brain function and in supporting neuronal computation. In this talk, I will go over our understanding of the pathways that connect neuronal spiking, synaptic activity and axonal myelination. After that, I will discuss how we measure white matter in living human brains, and demonstrate an approach to computational modelling for the evaluation of models of white matter and brain networks. Finally, I will provide a brief overview of studies of white matter implemented using brainlife.io the BRAIN initiative computational platform for scientific transparency and rigor.
