Aaron Batista is professor of bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He is dedicated to understanding how the brain controls our actions. In particular, his lab examines how learning and context shape how we perform arm movements. To do this, Batista takes a neural populations approach, recording the activity of dozens or more neurons in the cerebral cortex, and examining how their activity changes to sculpt behavior. As part of SCENE, he and his lab members will examine neural activity in skilled behaviors involving precise sensory-motor coordination.
