Ankan Sur

Ph.D. Researcher, Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center
Research Analyst, CCA (2021), Flatiron Institute

Ankan Sur studied radio polarization of millisecond pulsars with multipolar magnetic fields at the CCA with Drs. Yajie Yuan and Alexander Philippov. Previously Ankan worked on magnetohydrodynamical simulations, seeking to understand the equilibrium configurations of the magnetic fields in neutron stars. Ankan has also participated in LIGO data analysis to constrain the Hubble constant using gravitational wave observations. He has a master’s degree in astrophysics from the University of Amsterdam, where he was an Amsterdam Excellence Scholar, as well as a bachelor’s degree in physics from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.

Currently Ankan is finishing his doctoral studies at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center in Warsaw, Poland. In 2021, he was awarded “Best Ph.D. Student” by the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the fall of 2022, he will begin his postdoctoral research at Princeton University.
