Berfin Simsek joined the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Mathematics as a Research Fellow in September 2024. She is currently studying exciting deep learning models and developing mathematical analyses for representations of critical points and feature learning. During her Ph.D. at EPFL in Switzerland, she developed a combinatorial method to quantify the complexity of neural network loss landscapes. Before joining Flatiron CCM, she was a faculty fellow at NYU CDS, where she co-instructored the Machine Learning course.
