Geordie Williamson is a mathematician and director of the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute. His work concerns highly structured mathematical objects and their symmetries. In joint work with Google DeepMind, he pioneered the use of neural networks to attack hard mathematical problems. Williamson has been awarded several major international awards for his work, including election to the Royal Society, prizes from the Australian, American and European mathematical societies and the 2024 Max Planck Humboldt Research Award.
