William H. Press is a computer scientist and computational biologist with broad interests in the physical and biological sciences. His current research is in bioinformatics and whole-genome genetics. Press is the Leslie Surginer Professor of Computer Sciences and Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin. From 2009 to 2017, he was a member of President Barack Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

Press is a past president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is currently the elected treasurer of the National Academy of Sciences and a member of the Governing Board of the National Research Council. He also serves as a member of the Flatiron Institute’s scientific advisory board.
