Yuan Li, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Astronomy, University of Massachusetts Amherst

Yuan Li is an assistant professor of astronomy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She obtained her Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her research is in the general field of galaxy evolution. One of her main research focuses is supermassive black holes and their role in galaxy evolution. She is particularly interested in how SMBHs are fueled and how their feedback shapes the interstellar, circum-galactic, and intra-cluster media. Yuan’s work usually involves theoretical and computational modeling, but occasionally, she works with observational data as well. Previously, as a Flatiron Research Fellow at the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA), she joined the Simulating Multi-scale Astrophysics to Understand Galaxies (SMAUG) collaboration, where she enjoyed working with diverse teams to connect models across different scales.
