For many, math is a distant memory — one of classrooms and tricky equations. But math is also a gateway to many things, including careers in STEM, and many young people often don’t have access to the schooling or enrichment programs necessary to excel in the subject.

This is where organizations like Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) prove invaluable. BEAM connects students to advanced mathematical studies and builds community, resilience and joy in learning. Based in New York City and Los Angeles, BEAM reaches underserved and academically eager students early in their journeys through STEM. The organization not only helps students excel in math but also supports them through the rest of their academic lives and beyond. One of those students was Consuelo Rodriguez, whose BEAM experience led her to give back to the organization that equipped her with the tools to thrive in STEM.

In this video, learn how BEAM has impacted Rodriguez’s life.

BEAM joined the Science Sandbox community in 2016.
