In its first year of publication, The Transmitter has taken home four Jesse H. Neal Awards from SIIA Media, which recognize the best of business journalism and content creation.

Reporter Calli McMurray’s article “A scientific fraud. An investigation. A lab in recovery.,” which covered a high-profile case of scientific misconduct, took home the award for best single article as well as the overall top prize, the Grand Neal Award.

The Transmitter won the prize for best launch of a media brand and was a finalist for best overall art direction/design. Freelance journalist Emily Sohn’s “Maiken Nedergaard’s power of disruption” won the award for best profile.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Calli McMurray — whose article won the best single article and the Grand Neal Award, the Neals’ version of best in show — and the whole team,” says The Transmitter Editor-in-Chief Ivan Oransky. “Outstanding work like this is a team effort.”

The Transmitter, an editorially independent publication of the Simons Foundation, launched in November 2023 and delivers up-to-date news, insights and tools to build bridges across neuroscience and advance research.
