First Class of Simons Dissertation Fellows in Mathematics Announced

The fellowship, named in honor of foundation co-founder Jim Simons, provides research support to exceptional graduate students in mathematics.

The Simons Foundation is pleased to announce the inaugural recipients of its Simons Dissertation Fellowship in Mathematics. This program was created last year to commemorate the foundation’s late co-founder, Jim Simons, and to continue his commitment to supporting exceptional students in mathematics.

The Simons Dissertation Fellowship in Mathematics provides research support to graduate students in the final years of their mathematics Ph.D. program. Up to 40 dissertation fellowships are awarded each year, providing $30,000 in general research support for the student and $2,000 in support for the student’s department, over two years, to coincide with the fourth and fifth year of the student’s Ph.D. program.
