2025 Targeted Grants to Institutes and Targeted Grants in MPS Announced

The award programs support individuals and institutions working to advance mathematics and the physical sciences.

The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics & Physical Sciences (MPS) division is pleased to announce the latest recipients of the Targeted Grants in MPS and Targeted Grants to Institutions.

Targeted Grants in MPS provide funding for up to five years. The program is intended to support high-risk theoretical mathematics, physics and computer science projects of exceptional promise and scientific importance.

Targeted Grants to Institutions support established institutes or centers in the mathematics and physical sciences to strengthen contacts within the international scientific community.

Targeted Grants to Individuals

Scialog

Scialog is a program created by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA) that funds research and facilitates intensive dialogue and community building through focused meetings. These meetings are intended to advance human knowledge by building and strengthening a community of scientists who, across disciplines and sectors, may obtain true scientific breakthroughs.

The new grant will support cutting-edge contemporary quantum science. A series of three annual Scialog meetings focused on this research area, titled Scialog: Quantum Matter and Information, will be held starting in the fall of 2025. These meetings will address the need for breakthroughs in novel quantum materials, precision measurement, sensing and quantum information. The foundation’s grant funding will enable RCSA to support three Scialog fellows each year for three years.

Targeted Grants to Institutions

CERN

The Simons Foundation and Simons Foundation International continue their ongoing support of CERN through the CERN Non-Member State Summer Student Program and the CERN-Africa Summer Program. The CERN Non-Member State Summer Student Program gives the next generation of scientists the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on advanced projects in a scientific team at CERN. The CERN-Africa Summer Program aims to foster collaboration, provide training and encourage the development of scientific expertise on the African continent.

Institute of International Education (IIE)

Simons Foundation International provided an unrestricted gift to the IIE to support their scientific programs, including academic and career support services to STEM students.
