Gabriel Vecchi, Ph.D.

Knox Taylor Professor of Geosciences at the High Meadows Environmental Institute, Princeton University

Gabriel Vecchi is the Knox Taylor Professor of Geosciences at the High Meadows Environmental Institute in Princeton University and has been the institute’s director since July 2021. Vecchi is also the deputy director of the Cooperative Institute for Modeling the Earth System (CIMES), a joint institute between Princeton University and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). His research focuses on understanding changes to the oceans and atmosphere on timescales of weeks to centuries. Vecchi is a fellow of the American Meteorological Society and served as a lead author of the 2013 report for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. His honors include the U.S. Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the American Meteorological Society’s Clarence Leroy Meisinger Award and the Ascent Award from the Atmospheric Sciences Section of the American Geophysical Union.
