Ursy Makanga, Ph.D.

Flatiron Research Fellow, Biophysical Modeling, CCB, Flatiron Institute

Ursy Makanga joined the Center for Computational Biology as a Flatiron Research Fellow in the Biophysical Modeling Group in September 2025. His research focuses on the development of theoretical and computational tools to investigate nontrivial dynamics that arise in biology and active matter physics. Before joining the Flatiron Institute, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS) in Germany. He earned his Ph.D. in fluid mechanics from École polytechnique, Institut Polytechnique de Paris. Ursy received the Ph.D. Track grant from École polytechnique from 2019-2023, and the Master’s excellence scholarship from the Fondation de l’École polytechnique (FX) in 2019.
