David Byrne and Mala Gaonkar’s Theater of the Mind is set to open in Denver on August 31, 2022. The show will premiere at York Street Yards in Denver and will run through December 18. Originally set for an August 2020 release, the show was delayed due to COVID.

Theater of the Mind is an immersive, 15,000 square foot installation that takes its audience on a sensory journey through the human brain. Developed in consultation with neuroscientists, audience members will be guided through this one-of-a-kind participatory experience of narrative storytelling and engage in real time sensory experiments.

Theater of the Mind cautions: “The brain may wander. Side effects may include a distrust of your own senses, a disorientation of self and a mild to severely good time. You may not be who you think you are. But we’re all in it together.”

The show was produced by Byrne, an Academy Award, Grammy, and Tony Award-winning artist, and Gaonkar, a writer, in collaboration with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Off-Center.

The project has garnered significant press from Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The Denver Post, and others.
